The Year of the Car

2022 was my Year of Car. I think 2023 will be my Year of the Bicycle.

Not that I rode in many cars in 2022. In fact, I can count on the fingers of one hand my car trips, from a ride in an Uber to rides with friends. Being in a car made me feel like a cat being taken to the vet.

What made 2022 the Year of the Car was that I learned more than I’d ever known before about cars, car fuel, car components, car laws, car roads, car drivers and car culture when I wrote the Downtown Portland Car Master Plan.
